Sir Martin John GilbertCBE FRSL (25 October 1936 – 3 February 2015)^[1][2] was a British historian and honorary Fellow of Merton College, Oxford.

Early life and education

Martin Gilbert was born in London, the first child of Peter Gilbert, a north London jeweller, and his wife, Miriam.
